The Beginning:
Roger Manley had always wondered why people would want to own something just like
everyone else had. Roger was born with a “make it a one of a kind” philosophy. In 1974,
at the ripe old age of twenty. Roger picked up an airbrush and found a new hobby to fit
that philosophy. His first project was customizing his own hard hat. Over time, he took the
next step and started painting vehicles. So he started small and began to hone his skills,
experimenting with spray guns and different automotive finishes.
Realizing that it isn’t ALL about the paint job, he began to perfect his prep work skills by
working on some dented Harley Davidson gas tanks. His extensive welding abilities also
can in handy. The key to a “great” paint job is in the prep work.
Roger now wanted to put his customizing skills to work on a new type of medium -
motorcycles. The artistic ability that he had built had now went from a hobby to a part time
job. In between working at Dow Chemical and coaching his kids’ baseball team he had
begun painting on a regular basis. In addition to painting motorcycles and cars he also
started hand painting signs and commercial vehicles for local businesses.
The Computer Age:
With the expansive base of clients that he had built, Roger thought it might be time to
move into the computer age. This is when his son, Nick, came into the picture.
Twenty-two years after Roger picked up his first airbrush, he purchased his first vinyl
plotter and design software. Nick had been involved with Roger in the sign industry and
custom painting. He also had attended many Letterhead meets with his father. Many of
these meetings were held all over the country and even in Canada. They meet many
people that would eventually become great friends and influence Nick in his abilities.
Nick then began to create his own style of design that was a bit more modern than that
of his father’s. But with Roger being his biggest influence he never strayed from the
original philosophy of making things “different."
The two now work together, making Manley Graphics a leader in design, customer
satisfaction and quality. They use only the highest quality products including House of Kolor,
PPG and 3M. When it comes to technology they stay up to date with all of the newest
programs and upgrades. They strive to make everything from dune buggy graphics to
corporate identity; “different.”
